Rainy Days Farm Life

When it rains, farm work continues. For the first time we decided to use some of our extra strawberry plants to make hanging baskets. We have a limited number and are slowly prepping the our hoop houses to hold some hanging baskets. Maybe next year we will also try to plant some bulbs for early Spring flowers! Our cold frames are not heated, but do allow us to get a jump on the season so many flowers will be able to show their true colors before April!

Our chickens this year are getting new, more mobile homes. This has been a plan for a few years, but finally we have managed to get started. Our chicken tractors has a little shade cloth in the summer for chickens, but in the winter we plant to push all chicken tractors together for a temporary cold frame for Kale, Cilantro, Spinach, Arugula, and other cold weather crops. By the time we get chickens out in May, our plants will have a huge head start! Maybe if people are intereted we will start Maryhill Organic Chicken Tractor Co, afterall we got loads of spare time!
